Nuclear power has recently being considered as an innovative way to
generate electricity. According to Stewart Brand, founder of the Whole Earth
Catalog magazine, he suggests nuclear power to be the future trend of
generating electricity for it creates sufficient
energy and leave only a small amount of nuclear waste per person.
However, the stability and security of
nuclear power has been questioned by many people. They claim that if any accident
happened to the power plant like Fukushima, it could result in unimaginable catastrophe.
Now, it comes to the dilemma that whether
there should be a fourth nuclear power plant in Taiwan. The government says
that this plant is necessary because the main resource of electricity comes
from burning coal, and coal is getting less and expensive. However, most people
say that nuclear power plant is not suitable in Taiwan, for Taiwan is too small
to hold any nuclear explosion.
According to a survey conducted over people
from different regions of Taiwan, they all held strong emotions against the
plant. Some says that nuclear power is too dangerous and others claims that
Taiwan does not even need more nuclear power plant. It seems that the majority
of Taiwanese are against it and hoping to have environmental friendly energy
instead.
